Fransoo’s Overtime Goal Lifts Providence Over UConn, 2-1

Avery Fransoo and Whitney Dove each recorded two points in the victory.

STORRS, Conn. – The Providence College women's hockey team defeated the UConn Huskies in overtime, 2-1, on Friday, Dec. 6 in the Freitas Ice Forum. Providence trailed 1-0 in the third period before Whitney Dove (Port Moody, British Columbia) scored the equalizer, followed by Avery Fransoo's (North Battleford, Saskatchewan) game-winner 2:11 into the overtime period. Providence improves to 9-7-2 on the season with a 6-5-0 conference mark.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
-UConn gained the first lead of the night converting 7:41 into the second period. Claire Peterson shot a wrist shot from the top of the left circle that found the back of the net through traffic.
- Both sides played a clean opening period with zero penalties, the Huskies held an 8-5 advantage in shots at the end of the first period.
- Providence and UConn skated to a scoreless second period. The Friars nearly tied it at one goal apiece when Whitney Dove put a wrist shot top shelf midway through the period. Dove's shot came just after the whistle as Providence was called for too many skaters on the ice.
- The Huskies failed to convert on two power play chances as Providence's first power play of the night carried into the third period for 1:05.
- Dove scored her fifth goal of the season with 12:03 remaining in the third period to tie the game at 1-1. Avery Fransoo grabbed the puck off a rebound before feeding Dove at the point, Dove wristed a shot over the goaltender's stick side.
- Fransoo tallied her second point of the game with the game-winner in the overtime frame. The goal marked her first of the season. Dove slid the puck to Fransoo at the point who fired a wrist shot that deflected off a defender and in.
