Women’s Hockey Tops Boston College, 3-2

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Providence College women's ice hockey team defeated Boston College, 3-2, on Friday, Nov. 27 in Chestnut Hill, Mass. The Friars snapped a 15-game losing streak in Chestnut Hill, winning for the first time on Eagles' turf since Feb. 4th, 2012.

GAME FLOW AND NOTES
Boston College jumped out to an early lead, scoring in the first three minutes of the game with a goal from Savannah Norcross. Shortly after the Eagles' goal, the Friars went on the power play and scored their first goal of the game by Lauren DeBlois (Lewiston, Maine). Her second goal of the season, DeBlois was assisted by Chloe Gonsalves (Toronto, Ontario) and Bailey Burton (Bloomington, Minn.).

Claire Tyo (Massena, N.Y.) found the back of the net on a power play for her first collegiate goal with less than two minutes to go in the first, putting the Friars ahead 2-1.

The second period remained scoreless as the Friars led 2-1.

After the first two periods, Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) made 17 saves to keep the Eagles off the board.

Providence improved their lead in the third period with a breakaway goal by Annelise Rice (Excelsior, Minn.) assisted by Sara Hjalmarsson (Bankeryd, Sweden) and Lauren DeBlois. Hjalmarsson dished the puck to Rice who skated into Eagle territory and scored, bringing the Friars to a 3-1 lead.

In the third period, BC registered their second goal of the game at 15:32 from Maegan Beres, leading to the final score 3-2. 

Overall, Abstreiter made 34 saves, while Eagle's goaltender Abigail Levy made 25 saves.
