PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Parker Ford and Matt Koopman scored in a 1:15 span in the first period and Tyce Thompson added a third period insurance goal as the No. 15 Providence College men's hockey team defeated Vermont, 3-1, on Saturday night (Jan. 2) at Schneider Arena.

NOTES
-Vermont's Vlad Dzhioshvili scored early against the Friars 2:30 into the opening stanza. Assisted by Owen Grant and Jacques Bouquot. This was the first time Vermont has scored had held a lead all season.
 
-Parker Ford broke a Friars scoring drought with the equalizer at 15:32 of the first period, firing a quick wrist shot under the glove of Harmon.
 
-Matt Koopman followed up 1:15 later on a rebound with what proved to be the game- winning goal, giving the Friars a 2-1 lead. Craig Needham and Ben Mirageas earned the assists.
 
-Both teams were scoreless in the middle frame and went into the second intermission at 2-1 in favor of the Friars.
 
-Tyce Thompson joined in on the scoring 6:32 into the final period and gave Providence a two-goal cushion at 3-1. Nick Poisson slid a backhand feed to Thompson cutting through the left circle and his quick release went between the pads of Harmon. Jason O'Neill also assisted on the play.
 
-The Friars outshot the Catamounts in all three periods, including 20-5 in the final period to stymie a Vermont comeback bid.
 
-Jaxson Stauber recorded 20 saves for the night and improved his impressive season totals to a 1.30 GAA and a .946 save percentage.
 
- Matt Tugnutt posted a game-high seven shots on goal.
 
- Providence's penalty kill improved to 25-of-26 this season (.962).
 
- Shot attempts were 78-36 in favor of the Friars.
