AMHERST, Mass. – Freshman Riley Duran scored twice in the third period, including the game-winning goal with 3:42 remaining in regulation as the No. 17 Providence College men's hockey team outlasted No. 9/8 UMass, 2-1, on Friday night at the Mullins Center.

NOTES
- The teams skated through a scoreless first period as the Minutemen held a 10-7 advantage in shots. The Friars were unsuccessful on their two power play attempts, while UMass was blanked on their lone man-advantage.
- Providence gained some momentum in the second period, outshooting the Minutemen by a 10-7 margin and ringing two posts during power play opportunities.
- At the 2:17 mark of the third period, Duran finally broke the ice as he finished off a rebound off the end boards for his seventh goal of the year. Max Crozier and Cody Monds earned the assists on the play.
- Stauber came up with multiple key saves in the third period to keep the Friars ahead into the final minutes.
- The Minutemen knotted the game at 1-1 on a Bobby Trivigno goal with 3:51 to play.
- Duran responded just nine seconds later after Monds won a race to a loose puck, circled behind the UMass net and centered to Duran on the doorstep.
- The Friar defense clamped down in the final minutes to preserve the win. It was Providence's first win at the Mullins Center since Feb. 24, 2017.
- Providence improved to 2-2 this season against top-10 opponents.
- Stauber has stopped 86-of-88 shots he's faced over the last three games.
- The Friars snapped an eight-game winless streak against the Minutemen (0-6-2).
