- The Black Bears struck first at the 3:36 mark of the first period as Didrik Henbrant found a loose puck off a broken play and fired into an empty net.

Nick Poisson brought the Friars even at 1-1 with 1:59 remaining in the period with his ninth tally of the season.
Brett Berard and
Taige Harding earned assists on the play.
- On the ensuing faceoff, Poisson's brother, Ben, was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct for boarding, sending Providence to the power play.
- The Friars couldn't convert on the extended man-advantage to begin the second period but took the lead seconds after as
Craig Needham tipped a point shot from
Cam McDonald for his fourth goal of the season to make it 2-1.
- Lynden Breen leveled the game up for Maine on the power play at 12:52.
- The Providence power play came up empty to begin the third period and the Black Bears began to generate some momentum.
- With the game tied late, Sirota's point shot deflected on the way in and eluded Svedebäck to give Maine the go-ahead marker.
- Another Maine goal was waived off minutes later after a Friars challenge for goaltender interference.
- The Friars couldn't equalize despite having a 6-on-4 advantage for the final 56.5 seconds of play.
