Field Hockey Closes Regular-Season With BIG EAST Foe Villanova

Friars host the Wildcats at Lennon Family Field on Friday, Nov. 1 at 3:00 p.m.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team will conclude the regular-season schedule on Friday, Nov. 1 against BIG EAST foe Villanova. The match will be played at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. at 3:00 p.m.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE (7-9, 3-3 BIG EAST):
• The Friars enter the weekend with a 7-9 overall record, including a 3-3 mark in BIG EAST play. Four of the program's nine losses this season have come against nationally ranked opponents: No. 12 Michigan (8-1), No. 17 Boston College (3-1), No. 14 Liberty (2-1) and No. 20 Temple (1-0).
• The Friars have earned victories in each of their last two BIG EAST matches, including a 3-2 double-overtime victory against No. 5 Connecticut on Oct. 18 and a 4-1 win at Georgetown on Oct. 25.
• A Providence victory over Villanova on Friday afternoon, coupled with a Liberty loss at Georgetown will allow the Friars to claim the fourth and final spot in the BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship.
• The Friars' win over No. 5 UConn is the program's first victory over a top-five team in the national rankings since 2009. That season, Providence defeated No. 4 Princeton, 2-1, in Providence, R.I. 
Ally DeCoste leads the Friars in scoring with 18 points on eight goals and two assists. She recently compiled a season-high five points against Georgetown on Oct. 25 with two goals and one assist. DeCoste was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the second time this season on Oct. 29.
Bo Martina is second on the team in scoring with 16 points on five goals and a team-best six assists. 
Macie Pennisi is third in scoring with 10 points on four goals and two assists.
• Ten players on the roster have scored at least one goal this season and 12 players have registered at least one assist on the year.
Asia Porter has played 968 minutes in the cage this season and owns a 2.66 goals against average and a 0.636 save percentage.

SCOUTING VILLANOVA (9-7, 3-3 BIG EAST):
• The Wildcats own a 9-7 overall record, including a 3-3 mark in BIG EAST play.
• Villanova is in the midst of a two-game win streak. Last weekend, the Wildcats defeated Temple, 3-0, in BIG EAST play and defeated Fairfield in non-conference action, 4-3.
• The Wildcats have compiled a 2-4 record on the road and a 7-3 mark at the Proving Grounds in Conshohocken, Pa.
• Sabine de Ruijter (29 points) and Ava Borkowski (21 points) lead Villanova's offense. De Ruijter has tallied 13 goals and three assists, while Borowski owns 10 goals and one assist. Borkowski recorded a hat trick in the Wildcats' 3-0 victory over Temple on October 25.
• Emma Schwarz (17 points), Meghan Mitchell (16 points) and Gemma Lysaght (12 points) have each recorded double-digits in the scoring column.
• Maddi Sears has played 864 minutes in the cage and has recorded a 1.74 goals against average and a 0.671 save percentage.
 
BIG EAST TOURNAMENT SCENARIOS:
• Villanova, Providence and Liberty enter the final match of the regular season tied for fourth place in the BIG EAST standings.
• UConn, Old Dominion and Temple have secured three of the four spots in the BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship. The winner of Friday's game between UConn and ODU will decide the regular-season title.
• If Liberty defeats Georgetown on Friday afternoon, the Flames will secure the remaining spot in the tournament field.
• A Liberty loss will send the winner of the Providence vs. Villanova game to the tournament.
• The BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship is slated for Nov. 8-10 at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I.
