PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team (10-7, 1-3 BIG EAST) defeated Seton Hall University (6-9, 0-4 BIG EAST) in five sets (3-2) on Saturday, Oct. 4 in BIG EAST action.
FIRST SET HIGLIGHTS: Providence earned a 25-17 victory in the first set.
- Providence came out strong with a 6-1 lead, forcing a Seton Hall timeout.
- Junior Macy Taylor (Rowlett, Texas) had an ace to extend the Friars' lead to 17-6, prompting another Pirates timeout.
- An ace by sophomore Audrey Kocon (Shoreview, Minn.) further advanced PC's lead to 20-9.
- A kill by freshman Tori Otter (Rogers, Ark.) secured the set for Providence, 25-17.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Seton Hall won the second set 25-20.
- The two teams played evenly, tying the set at 11-11.
- Seton Hall took the lead at 18-16, forcing a Providence timeout.
- The Friars took another timeout after the Pirates extended their lead to 21-16.
- Seton Hall maintained its lead and won the set, 25-20.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence won the third set 25-22.
- Providence came out quick with a 7-1 lead, forcing a Seton Hall timeout.
- A kill by sophomore Sophia Adkins (Cincinnati, Ohio) extended the Friars' lead to 15-12.
- The Pirates called another timeout after a kill by Adkins put Providence ahead 20-16.
- Providence maintained its lead and won the set 25-22.
FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS: Seton Hall won the fourth set 25-22.
- Seton Hall jumped out to an 8-5 advantage, forcing a Providence timeout.
- The Friars reclaimed the lead after a block by Junior Lyric Berry (Wylie, Texas), prompting a Seton Hall timeout (11-9).
- The teams went back-and-forth, tying the set at 15-15.
- Providence took another timeout after Seton Hall took the lead at 20-17.
- Berry and Kocon combined for a block, tying the set again at 21-21.
- Seton Hall went on a 4-1 run to win the set, 25-22.
FIFTH SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence won the set, 15-12, and the match 3-2.
- Providence came out strong with a 4-1 lead.
- Seton Hall reclaimed the lead, forcing a Providence timeout (9-7).
- A kill by Adkins put Providence ahead 10-9.
- Providence maintained its lead to win the set, 15-12 and the match 3-2.
MATCH NOTES:
- Adkins led the team in kills with 26.
- Taylor recorded a double-double, with 12 kills and 10 digs.
- Berry tallied nine blocks.
- Redshirt senior Hadley Pride (Nashville, Tenn.) led the defense with 22 digs.
- The Friars notched 64 kills, 16 blocks and 65 digs.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Friars hit the road next weekend for BIG EAST Conference play. They will face Butler on Friday, Oct. 10 at 7:00 p.m.
Providence will then play Xavier on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 3:30 p.m.
