Friars Conclude BIG EAST Championships With Strong Performances On Day Four

Lauren Wagner sets school record in the 200-yard breaststroke; Alex Beauchene places sixth in championship final of 100-yard freestyle.

GENEVA, OHIO – The Providence College swimming & diving programs concluded competition at the BIG EAST Championship on Thursday, Feb. 27 at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio. 
 
A host of Friars qualified for finals events, including Alex Beauchene, who had another strong performance en route to qualifying for the championship final in the 100-yard free. Beauchene finished sixth in the event with a time of 44.97. Lauren Wagner set a school record in the 200-yard breaststroke during prelims with a time of 2:20.23 and then bested the mark, once again, in the final with a time of 2:19.92. Wagner placed 10th in the finals.
 
The Friars completed the championship with a fourth-place showing in the men's 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:01.27. The squad was comprised of Thomas Bowers, Gabe Hawkins, Nathan Thayer and Beauchene.
