Women’s Soccer Set To Kick-Off The 2025 Season Versus Army

The Friars will host Army West Point in their season opener on Thursday, Aug. 14 on Chapey Field at 6:30 p.m.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's soccer team is set to open the 2025 season versus Army West Point on Thursday, Aug. 14. The match will kick off at 6:30 p.m. on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I.  The game will be available for streaming on ESPN+.

SCOUTING THE FRIARS... The Friars finished with a 6-9-3 overall record and went 3-5-2 in BIG EAST conference play.  

RETURNERS... The Friars return 18 players from last years roster including three multi-goal scorers.  

Senior defender/midfielder, Ella McBride (Peteroborough, Ont.) enters her fourth season with the Friars. Throughout her career at Providence, she has played in 39 games and recorded 12 points on five goals and two assists. Last season, McBride finished tied for second on the team in scoring with a career-high eight points on five goals and two assists. She was named to the All-BIG EAST Third Team at the conclusion of the season. McBride missed six games in 2024 season to compete on the Canadian National Team in the Under-20 FIFA World Cup.  

Graduate student goalkeeper Ellie Thallman (Northville, Mich.) returns for her second season with the Friars. Thallman joined Providence last year as a transfer from Michigan State. She played in 15 games in net for the Friars and compiled a 2-3-3 record. She registered 24 saves and a .706 save percentage. Thallman was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week on Sept. 30.  

Junior Marryn Gruhn (Northport, N.Y.) enters her third season with the Friars. She has played in 36 games for the Friars and has tallied five career goals. Last season, Gruhn recorded two goals and was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Sept. 30.  

Sophomore Kristin Middaugh (Lancaster, N.Y.) enters her second season with the Providence. In her freshman campaign, Middaugh netted two goals for the Friars.  

Stephanie Schoeley (Thedford, Ont.) returns for her second season with the Friars. In her freshman season Schoeley scored one goal for the Friars. This past summer, Schoeley helped lead Team Canada to a 2025 CONCACAF U20 Women's Championship victory.  

Senior Abbey Finn (Dedham, Mass.) returns for her fourth season with the Friars. Last season, Finn anchored the Friars' back line and led the team with 1,569 minutes on the field.  

NEWCOMERS… Providence welcomes 11 student-athletes to the program this season, featuring two transfers and nine freshmen. The transfers include junior midfielder Meg Roden (Belconnen, Australia) and redshirt freshman Caitlin Driscoll (Sherborn, Mass.) from Syracuse.  

In her two seasons at High Point, Roden played in 36 gmaes with 26 appearances in the starting lineup. She scored four goals and added one assist at High Point. Roden was named to the Big South Conference All-Freshman Team in 2023 and earned BIG South Conference Honorable Mention in 2024. Driscoll spent one season at Syracuse and did not appear in any games.  

The incoming freshman class includes Leila Anazagasty-Pursoo (Bayshore, N.Y.), Mara Batchen (Snyder, N.Y.), Gia D'Alessio (East Hanover, N.J.), Emma Gregorski (South Glastonbury, Conn.), Olivia Jacobs (Villanova, Pa.), Courtnee Pickles (Methuen Mass.), Sophie Tonino (Howell, N.J.) and Eden Wheeler (Norwell, Mass.).    

ELLA MCBRIDE NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-BIG EAST TEAM… Ella McBride was named to the Preseason ALL-BIG EAST Team. The BIG EAST released its 2025 Preseason Coaches' Poll and preseason honors on Aug. 12. McBride, who earned All-BIG EAST Third Team honors as a junior in 2024, started in 12 games for the Friars. She finished tied for second on the team in points (eight) on three goals and two assists.   

BIG EAST PRESEASON COACHES POLL... Providence women's soccer was picked to finish sixth in the 2025 BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll earning 53 points. Providence finished last season with a 3-5-2  record in conference play.   

SERIES HISTORY AGAINST ARMY WEST POINT... The Friars hold a 1-3-0 record against the Black Knights. In their last meeting, the Friars were defeated, 2-1, in West Point, N.Y. during the 2024 season.  

SCOUTING THE BLACK KNIGHTS... In 2024, the Army finished 12-6-1 overall and 5-3-1 in the Patriot League. The Black Knights were picked to finish second in the Patriot Leauge in the 2025 Preseason Poll and collected two first place votes. Two Black Knights were named to the All-Patriot League Preseason Team, including Brigid Duffy and Jordan Follenweider. Duffy was the team's second leading scorer from last season with six goals and 14 points. Follenweider anchored Army's backline last season talling a team-high 1,725 minutes and recorded a goal and two assists.
