PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's soccer team defeated the Army Black Knights (0-1-0), 1-0, in both team's season opener on Aug. 14 in Providence, R.I. The Friars open the season with a 1-0-0 overall record. Redshirt freshman Lily Gibbs (Dedham, Mass.) scored her first career goal for the Friars. Graduate student Ellie Thallman (Northville, Mich.) recorded a clean sheet to help secure the win.

• Army controlled the possession battle through the first 13 minutes of action, registering the first four shots of the contest. Providence took control of the next four shots of the half in the final 30 minutes of the first half.
• The game remained scoreless after the first half.
• In the 72nd minute (71:29), Lilly Gibbs (Dedham, Mass.) scored her first career goal and gave the Friars a 1-0 lead. Alanna Coffie (Warwick, R.I.) played the ball into the left side of the box, and Gibbs beat the keeper in the middle of the net.
