KINGSTON, R.I. – The Providence College men's soccer team earned a 3-1 victory over the University of Rhode Island on Monday, Sept. 1 at the URI Soccer Complex in Kingston, R.I. The Friars improved to 2-2 on the season, while the Rams fell to 0-2-1.
Angelo Ventrella (Toronto, Canada) scored his first career goal for the Friars.
Ian Abbey (Elmer, N.J.) and
Bruno Rosa (Cascais, Portugal) also added their first goals of the season. Senior
Sam Montalto (Stonington, Conn.) notched two assists.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
•Rhode Island struck first in the 35th minute (34:17) when Daniel Goba converted a pass from Tiago Barriguinha for the 1-0 lead.
•Providence equalized before halftime, as Ventrella scored his first collegiate goal in the 43rd minute (42:09) off an assist from Montalto.
•The Friars pulled ahead in the second half when Abbey finished a left-footed shot in the 75th minute (74:40), also assisted by Montalto.
•Just five minutes later (79:51), Rosa added insurance with an unassisted goal to make it 3-1.
•Providence controlled the stat sheet, with a 20-9 edge in shots and a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Ryan Carney (Dunstable, Mass.) made two saves in goal for the Friars, while URI's Caleb McNeil recorded seven stops.
