Men's Soccer Secures BIG EAST Tournament Berth With 2-2 Draw Vs. No. 11 Georgetown

The Friars complete comeback behind Angelo Ventrella’s two goal performance.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's soccer team earned a crucial 2-2 draw against No. 11 Georgetown on Friday, Nov. 7 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. With the result, the Friars improved to 6-6-3 (4-2-2 BIG EAST), securing their spot in the 2025 BIG EAST Tournament — the program's 25th all-time appearance. Georgetown moved to 10-3-4 (6-0-2 BIG EAST). The Friars will match up again with the Hoyas in the semifinal round on Thursday, Nov. 13 at Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md.

GAME FLOWS & NOTES
• Georgetown opened up the scoring on a counter opportunity in the 25th minute when Mitchell Baker scored on a centering pass from Mateo Ponce Ocampo (24:12).
• Georgetown extended its lead when Zach Zengue finished on a rebound opportunity on an initial shot from David Urrutia to make it 2-0 (33:31).
• Providence responded less than a minute later when Angelo Ventrella (Toronto, Canada) slid a shot passed Tenzing Manske for his fourth goal of his freshman campaign to cut the deficit in half, 2-1 (33:57).
• Providence outshout Georgetown, 10-5, in the first half and held the advantage in possession, 56%-44%.
• Providence continued its steady pressure well into the second half, creating several promising opportunities that tested the Georgetown defense.
• In the 76th minute Angelo Ventrella struck again for his second goal of the night to tie the game at 2. The goal came on a centering corner kick  from Pearse O'Brien (West Hartford, Conn.). The goal marked Ventrella's first multi-goal-game of his career, and the assist marked O'Brien's sixth of the year.
•   The Friars continued their pressure until the final whistle, controlling 57% of possession and outshooting Georgetown 16-6, including a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Ryan Carney (Dunstable, Mass.) made one save in goal for the Friars.
•  Providence's back line of Charlie Dickerson (Norwich, England), Brandon Marshall (Massachusetts), Vasco Teixeira (Arrentela, Portugal), and Mitchel Varley (Portsmouth, N.H.) helped shut down Georgetown in the second half, limiting them to one shot after halftime.
• Four of Angelo Ventrella's five goals this season have come in BIG EAST play.

With the draw, Providence clinched a berth in the 2025 BIG EAST Tournament. The Friars' 4-2-2 conference record locks in their spot among the league's top four teams, ensuring their 25th all-time BIG EAST Tournament appearance. The Friars with play No. 1 Georgetown, and No. 2 Akron will play No. 3 UConn in the two semifinal matchups.
