Friars Defeated By Creighton In Final Regular-Season Road Game, 69-49

Friars will host Marquette in their regular-season finale on Sunday, March 1 at 5:30 p.m.
OMAHA, NEB. – The Providence College women's basketball team was defeated by Creighton, 69-49, on Feb. 26 in Omaha, Neb. It marked the Friars final regular-season road game of the year. Providence fell to 14-16 overall (7-12 BIG EAST). Creighton improved to 14-14 (10-9 BIG EAST).
1ST QUARTER:
• Creighton held a 12-8 lead at the first media timeout (3:41). Providence shot 4-14 from the field in the opening 6:19 of play, while the Bluejays hit an efficient 5-7 shots from the floor (.714).
• Providence went on a 7-0 run out of the break to take a 13-12 lead at the 2:43 mark.
• Creighton closed the quarter with a 10-4 scoring edge to claim a 22-17 lead at the intermission.
• Teneisia Brown scored eight points in the opening frame.
2ND QUARTER:
• Creighton pushed its lead to 29-19 and forced a Providence timeout with 6:30 to play.
• Payton Dunbar ended a scoring drought of just over three minutes with her second triple of the game.
• Creighton outscored Providence 12-2 over the final 5:43 of the quarter to take a 41-24 lead at halftime.
• The Bluejays held a 19-7 scoring advantage in the quarter overall.
3RD QUARTER:
• Providence used an 8-2 run to cut the deficit to 46-34 with 6:35 on the clock.
• Creighton answered with a 10-2 run to make it a 20-point game with 1:55 to play (56-36).
• The 'Jays led 58-39 at the break.
• Sabou Gueye scored seven of the Friars' 15 points in the quarter.
4TH QUARTER:
• Dunbar hit back-to-back threes to cut the deficit to 17 with 6:33 to play (62-45).
• Providence then went scoreless for a span of 5:15 while the Bluejays got out to a 69-45 advantage.
• Gueye halted the drought with a pair of free throws at the 1:18 mark.
• Providence did not score a field goal in the final 6:33 of the game.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Gueye led the Friars with 13 points, including 11 in the second half. She added three rebounds, three steals and one blocked shot.
• Dunbar finished the game with 12 points, shooting 4-9 from beyond the arc.
• Orlagh Gormley endured a tough shooting night, finishing with just four points, but hauled in a career-high 11 rebounds to go along with five steals and three assists.
• Gormley has dished 3+ assists in 24 games this season and has collected 5+ steals in six games, including three of the last four.

• The Friars will host Marquette in the 2025-26 regular-season finale on Sunday, March 1 at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. and the game will be televised on Peacock.
