Men’s Soccer to Host In-State Rival Rhode Island on Monday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's soccer team (3-1-1) will return to action versus in-state rival Rhode Island on Monday, Sept. 7. The match will kick off at 7:00 p.m. on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. and will be available for streaming on ESPN+.

SCOUTING THE FRIARS…
The Providence College men's soccer team enters Monday's match with a 3-1-1 record after earning a 3-1 victory over Harvard on Friday, Sept. 4, at Jordan Field in Boston, Mass. Alvaro Maneiro (Madrid, Spain) scored twice in the victory over Harvard. The Friars have opened the season 2-0-1 at home, earning victories over Sacred Heart and Long Island University while playing Boston University to a 1-1 draw.
Providence has scored 13 goals through its first five games of the season. Maneiro leads the Friars with four goals, while Angelo Ventrella (Toronto, Ont.) leads the team with nine points, recording two goals and five assists. Graduate student Sam Montalto (Stonington, Conn.) and senior Fernando Garcia Gil (Granada, Spain) have each recorded two goals on the season. Freshman David Casado (Alicante, Spain) has contributed one goal and two assists, while Steban Lopera (Revere, Mass.) has recorded two assists.
Defensively, the Friars have conceded eight goals through the first five games of the season. Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Carney (Dunstable, Mass.) has started every match in net this season, collecting 24 saves and posting a .750 save percentage. Freshman Ian Morel (Pawtucket, R.I.), junior Brandon Marshall (Wake Forest, N.C.), junior Vasco Teixeira (Arrentela, Portugal) and Lopera have anchored the Friars' defense.
 
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST RHODE ISLAND…
The Friars will host in-state rival Rhode Island on Monday, Sept. 7. Monday's match will mark the 54th meeting all-time between the Friars and Rams. Rhode Island holds a 32-15-6 advantage in the all-time series. Providence won last year's meeting, 3-1, on Sept. 1, 2025, in Kingston, R.I.
 
SCOUTING THE RAMS…
Rhode Island enters Monday's match with a 1-3-0 record. The Rams opened the season with losses to Stonehill and Bryant before earning a 2-1 victory over Holy Cross on Aug. 29. Rhode Island most recently fell to Merrimack, 3-1, on Sept. 2. The Rams have scored four goals through their first four matches of the season. Tiago Barriguinha and Theo Harris lead Rhode Island with two goals, while Everson Goglia has accounted for the other Rams goal this season.
 
UP NEXT…
The Friars will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 12 when they travel to face Bryant (3-0-1) at Beirne Stadium in Smithfield, R.I. The match will kick off at 6:00 p.m. and will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
