Douglas Smith
Doug Smith arrived in Providence with four years of head coaching experience. Most recently, he was the head coach for the men’s and women’s golf teams at NCAA Division III Manhattanville University. Under his guidance, the men’s team earned consecutive runner-up finishes at the Skyline Conference Championships. He also mentored and developed a Conference Rookie of the Year and Athlete of the Year.

Before moving into collegiate coaching, Smith began his career as the varsity boys' golf coach at Riverdale Country School in the Bronx, N.Y. and at T.G.A. Premier Golf as a head coach at the youth level. In addition to his coaching experience, Smith has owned and operated Golf Design Unlimited LLC in Eastchester, N.Y., for the past 25 years, specializing in the design and consulting of golf courses, practice facilities and other related infrastructure. Over his career, he has contributed to more than 200 design and renovation projects, including 20 new golf course designs and 20 driving range construction projects. Smith brings experience as a rules official for the Metropolitan Golf Association (MGA) and is a member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA) since 2009.

Smith, a 1988 graduate of Providence College, earned his bachelor's degree in history. He later attended the Rhode Island School of Design, where he completed a second and third bachelor's degree in landscape architecture and fine arts.

Smith has four children. His oldest, Cameron, is a junior at St. Lawrence University and a goaltender on the men’s hockey team. Smith has twin girls, Tatum and Georgie, who attend Providence College and his youngest daughter, Sutton, is in high school.
