Connecticut (3-0-0, 1-0-0): The Connecticut Huskies, ranked fourth in the nation in the NCSAA/Umbro preseason poll, travel to Providence to face the Friars in the league opener for PC. UConn has won three straight to start the season, including a 1-0 BIG EAST win at Boston College last Wednesday. This past weekend, the Huskies knocked off 10th-ranked Duke, 3-2, and Wisconsin, 2-0 to win the First Union/UConn Soccer Classic at Storrs. Freshman Mary Francis Monroe was tourney MVP and leads UConn with two goals and three assists for seven points. Sophomore Jen Carlson scored three goals on the week to rank second in scoring. Goalkeeper Anne Elisabeth Eskerud is 3-0 with two shutouts and a 0.67 goals against average.

Providence (0-2-0, 0-0-0): The Friars open their BIG EAST schedule against one of the elite teams in the BIG EAST. Joe Crehan's Friars are 0-2 to start the season with losses to New Hampshire (4-0) and at Northeastern (2-1) on the ledger. The Friars fell behind 2-0 on Sunday at Northeastern only to see senior Michelle Caravana score on a setup from junior Alexa Ricardo 54 minutes into the game. Junior Shayna Ross made 11 saves against the Huskies and ten against New Hampshire in the season opener. The Huskies have had the Friars number in recent years. UConn won at Storrs last season, 5-0 and have won 15 of the 16 all-time meetings between the two schools. PC's only win against Connecticut came in the 1993 BIG EAST Championship game, a 2-0 PC victory. The Friars travel to Washington, D.C. on Sunday, September 13 to face Georgetown in a noon game.
