Women's Hockey Defeats Gustavus Adolphus, 7-1

SAINT PAUL, MINN... --The eighth-ranked Providence College Friars defeated the Gustavus Adolphus Golden Gusties, 7-1 in women's hockey action, on January 20, at Gustavus' Lund Arena.

Providence was led by junior defenseman Valerie Bono (Woburn, Mass.) who scored two goals and added an assist, while freshman Danielle Culgin (Framingham, Mass.) contributed three assists.

The Friars entered the second period with a three goal lead, when sophomore Jennifer Kranz (Waukesha, Wis.) started rolling, scoring her eighth and ninth goals of the season, increasing the Friar lead to 5-0. Senior Katherine Cahill (Wethersfield, Conn.) and freshman Jenn Butsch (Berlin, Vt.) each added a goal for the Friars.

Friars goalie Brigid Keady (Glencoe, Ill.) stopped 15 shots, while Sarah Pinkham turned away 37 shots for Gustavus.

Providence record stands at 11-5-3 overall, 7-4-3 in the ECAC, the Golden Gusties drop to 8-6-0.

Providence will return to action on January 21, when they travel to St. Cloud 4:05 p.m. at the National Hockey Center.
