PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College women's cross country team is ranked No. 11 in the country, according to the latest NCAA Women's Cross Country Poll released on Monday, September 18.
In the squad's last race on September 9, the Friars captured the University of Rhode Island Invitational in Kingston, R.I. Providence was led by senior Rachel Hixson (Media, Pa.) who finished first in a time of 18:00. The Friars dominated the meet as they captured the first five spots and seven of the first 10 positions. Sophomore Roisin McGettigan of Wicklow, Ireland (second, 18:00), freshman Lisa Cappello of Lockport, N.Y. (third, 18:01), junior Kathryn Casserly of Galway, Ireland (fourth, 18:08) and sophomore Emily Tallen of Kingston, Ontario (fifth, 18:17) all scored for the Friars.
The Providence women's team returns to action on September 23 at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn.
