PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Former Providence College standout Amy Rudolph (Kane, Pa.) finished seventh in her heat (15:28.91) in the 5,000 meters at the Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia on Friday, September 22. With her seventh-place finish, Rudolph did not qualify for the 5,000 meter finals which will be run on September 25.

Rudolph, a 10-time All-American at PC, was feeling the effects of a virus she contracted last weekend. Although she was able to stay with the lead pack for the beginning of the race, the Kane, Pa. native struggled through the last 3,000 meters.

Rudolph, who graduated from Providence in 1995, ran the 5,000 meters at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Ga. She is a former American record holder at that distance. At the U.S. Olympic Trials in July, she won her preliminary heat in a time of 15:37.65 and finished fourth in the finals (15:21.16). Although only the top three runners qualify for the Games, Rudolph was selected when Deena Drossin committed to compete in the 10,000 meters rather than run the 5,000.
