PROVIDENCE, R.I.– The Providence College men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Friar Invitational at the
Ray Treacy Track at Hendricken Field in Providence, R.I., on Friday, April 10. Nine Friars won events including
Maeve O'Neill (Cork, Ireland) (800 meters),
Cara Laverty (Derry, Ireland) (mile),
Emily Bush (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) (3,000 meter-invite),
Kaleigh Higgins (Watervliet, N.Y.) (3,000-meter open),
Anna Gardiner (Downpatrick, Ireland) (5,000 meters), Tom Breen (Providence, R.I) (800 meters),
Elliott Pugh (Tauranga, New Zealand) (mile),
Cormac Dixon (Dublin, Ireland) (3,000 meter),
Nik Ventura (Jamison, Penn.) (long jump).
O'Neill (Cork, Ireland) won the 800-meter invite, breaking her own program record and setting the facility record in 2:02.22.

Also on the women's side was senior
Cara Laverty (Derry, Ireland) in the mile invite who won the event in 4:44.79, followed by sophomore
Annie Mann (Hampshire, England) who placed seventh (4:51.61). Freshman
Ciara Evans (Newton, Mass.) placed 12th (4:54.62).
Also competing in the 800-meter invite was freshman
Gemma Galvin (Clare, Ireland) who placed second in a time of 2:08.59.
Sophomore
Emily Bush (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) won the 3,000-meter invite in 9:26.24. Freshmen
Emilia O'Leary (East Aurora, N.Y.) and
Lucia West (Raleigh, N.C.) followed in fourth (9:53.01) and ninth (9:57.75), respectively. Junior
Kaleigh Higgins (Watervliet, N.Y.) won the 3,000-meter open in 10:10.20.
The women's 5,000 meter-invite was won by sophomore
Anna Gardiner (Downpatrick, Ireland) in a facility record and personal best time of 15:51.78. Following Gardiner was sophomore
Gabrielle Schmidt (Brisbane, Australia) who finished second in a time of 15:55.97 and freshman
Kate Currie (Christchurch, Zealand) who placed third in 16:00.31. Schmidt and Currie also recorded personal bests. Senior
Jane Buckley (Cork, Ireland) (16:18.42) rounded out the group with a fifth-place finish.
In the 100 meters, junior
Cate Parks (Marion, Mass.) was the top finisher for the Friars in 13.04. Senior
Lexi Brent (York, Maine) placed seventh (1:07.52) in the 400-meter hurdles.
Sophomore
Chloe Higgins (Morristown, N.J.) placed fourth in the 400 meters (56.89) and senior
Jill Fenerty (Franklin, Mass.) was sixth (57.55). Junior
Maggie Kemper (Huntington, N.Y.) followed in a personal best time of 57.79 to place seventh overall.
Sophomore
Keira Kelly (Scotch Plains, N.J.) placed third in the 200 meters in 25.51 while Parks finished 11th (27.04).
On the men's side, the mile invite was won by sophomore
Elliott Pugh (Tauranga, New Zealand) who finished in 4:03.24. Junior
Tyler Bartlett (Fairfield, Conn.) followed, placing third in 4:04.93. Graduate student
Liam Back (New Plymouth, New Zealand) rounded out the top-10, placing eighth in 4:05.97.
In the 800-meter invite, sophomore Tom Breen (Providence, R.I) won the event in an outdoor personal best time of 1:49.74.
In the open mile, freshman
Jack Dowd (Pearl River, N.Y.) finished second overall in 4:11.32. Sophomore
Ryan Welch (Wyckoff, N.J.) placed fifth in a personal best time (4:13.09).
In the men's 3,000-meter open, sophomore
Cormac Dixon (Dublin, Ireland) took home first-place in 8:19.62.
Sophomore
Ryan LoCicero (Bloomfield, N.J.) placed fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase gaining a new personal best of 9:08.21.
Sophomore
Tucker Anglemyer (Winnetka, Ill.) placed 12th in the 100 meters in a personal best time of 11.73 while freshman
Eli Wood (South Kingstown, R.I.) finished fifth overall in the 200 meters in a personal best time of 22.83.
Senior
Kyle Bloomer (Darien, Conn.) set a personal best time of 48.31 in the 400 meters and now sits second all-time in program history in the outdoor event. Bloomer finished fourth overall.
In the 800-meter open,
Will Johnston (Auckland, New Zealand) finished fifth overall (1:52.92) while junior
Owen Comiskey (Sherborn, Mass.) placed ninth overall and won his heat in 1:53.93.
In the field events, senior
Nik Ventura (Jamison, Penn.) won the long jump in 6.04m Junior
Jon Mignacca (Seekonk, Mass.) placed third in the high jump with a mark of 1.85m.
