PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College women's cross country team was ranked ninth in the country in Monday, September 24's FinishLynx/NCAA Division I Women's Cross Country National Poll. The Friars advance from the number 13 position where they were ranked in the preseason poll on September 1.
PC received a total of 223 votes after winning their first two meets, the September 7 New Hampshire Invitational and the September 18 Boston College Invitational where PC defeated the then-No. 2 ranked Eagles.
Colorado sits atop the poll for the second-straight poll after accumulating all 13 first-place votes. Stanford moves up from No. 3 to the No. 2 spot this week while North Carolina St. jumps from No. 9 to No. 3 this week. Closing out the top five spots are Brigham Young and Wisconsin.
The highest ranked Northeast team is Yale at No. 6 and 35 points ahead of the Friars. North Carolina (No. 7, 230 pts.), Arizona (No. 8, 227 pts.), PC and Georgetown (No. 10, 207 pts.) close out the top 10.
The Friars continue their season on Saturday, September 29 at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn. where PC will compete with 12 other nationally ranked teams.
