PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College hosted a press conference on Thursday, November 20 at Schneider Arena on the PC Campus in preview of the 2003 Mayor's Cup.
The 18th annual Mayor's Cup, which will be played on Tuesday, November 25 at Schneider Arena (Live on Cox3), features Providence College and Brown University, Rhode Island's only Division I hockey programs. The storied rivalry between the two hockey programs began back in 1927, but the first Mayor's Cup game was played in 1986. Providence leads the Mayor's Cup series 10-6-1, but Brown leads the overall series, 41-40-1.
In addition, representatives from the Providence College and Brown University women's hockey teams also were present as both teams prepare for the women's hockey Mayor's Cup, which will be played on Saturday, November 29 at Schneider Arena at 2:00 p.m. Brown leads the Mayor's Cup series, 5-1-2, but the Friars lead the all-time series, 28-18-2.
