PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The sixth-ranked Providence College women's cross country team and the 16th-ranked Providence men will compete at the Boston College Select Meet on Friday, September 12 at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. The women's race will begin at 3:30 p.m., while the men's race will start at 4:15 p.m.
The Providence women, who are a coming off a first-place finish at the PC Invitational on September 5, will be competing against Albany, Bentley, Brown, Central Connecticut State, Harvard, Connecticut, Iona, New Hampshire and 22nd-ranked Boston College. In their first-place finish at the PC Invitational, the Friars had five runners finish in the top nine, including the top three finishes. Juniors Kimberly Smith (Aukland, New Zealand) and Mary Cullen (Sligo, Ireland) finished first and second, respectively in a time of 17:06. Junior Deirdre Byrne (Avoca, Ireland) took third-place in a time of 17:25.
On the men's side, the Friars will compete against the same schools as the women for the exception of Connecticut. Among PC's opponents at the Boston Select Meet, will be Iona, which is currently ranked ninth nationally. Providence captured their season opening meet as it finished first at the PC Invitational on September 5. Junior Patrick Moulton (Pelham, N.H.) led the Friars with a second-place finish in a time of 24:53. Juniors Dylan Wykes (25:00) of Kingston, Ont. and Patrick Guidera (25:10) of Clonmel, Ireland as well as senior Jamie Carmichael (25:24) of Windsor, Vt. finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
Following the Boston Select Meet, the Friars will not compete until Saturday, September 27, when they travel to Minneapolis, Minn. to participate in the Roy Griak Invitational.
