HOPKINTON, N.H. - The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams competed in the New England Championships on Friday, Oct. 9 at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds in Hopkinton, N.H. The Friar men won the 8K race over 17 teams with 85 points. It marked the 27th time in program history the Friars have won the New England Championships title. The men were led by graduate student
Sam Hodgson (Ascot, United Kingdom), who placed third in 24:40.9. The Friar women scored 76 points and finished second overall. Freshman
Lorraine O'Connor (Dublin, Ireland) was the top finisher, placing fourth in 17:41.4. It was the 113th running of the New England Men's Cross Country Championship and the 52nd running of the Women's Championship.

After Hodgson, senior
Will Johnston (Auckland, New Zealand) also finished inside the top 10, placing sixth overall in 25:00.5. Junior
Liam McCay (Liverpool, England) and sophomore
Jeb Hillary (Grand Rapid, Mich.) finished 21st (25:29.6) and 24th (25:32.5), respectively. Rounding out the scoring for Providence was sophomore
Jack Dowd (Pearl River, N.Y.) who placed 32nd overall in 25:39.3.
For the women, after O'Connor, sophomore
Emilia O'Leary (East Aurora, N.Y.) placed seventh overall in 17:46.1. Also finishing in the top-25 for Providence was senior
Kiera Hall (Christchurch, New Zealand) and freshman
Pia Langton (Kilkenny, Ireland) who placed 14th (18:05.0) and 25th (18:22.5), respectively. Sophomore
Gemma Galvin (Clare, Ireland) rounded out the scoring for the Friars in 30th (18:30.8).
The Friars will return to action on Friday, Oct. 23 at the Brown Rothenberg Run in Attleboro, Mass. at the Mark Coogan Cross Country Course at Highland Park.
