Men’s And Women’s Cross Country Teams Compete At Nuttycombe Invitational

Friar women’s team placed 17th; men’s squad places 29th.

MADISON, Wis.– The No. 24 Providence College women's cross country team and the Friar men's cross country team competed at the University of Wisconsin's Nuttycombe Invitational on Friday, Oct. 9 in Madison, Wis. The Friar women finished 17th overall (443 points). The men finished 29th (664 points). The women's race featured 18 teams ranked in the top-30 in the latest national poll and the men's race had 21 teams ranked in the top-30 nationally.

The Friar women's team was led by junior Anna Gardiner (Downpatrick, Ireland). Gardiner finished in 30th place with a time of 19:59.6. Fellow juniors Gabrielle Schmidt (Brisbane, Australia) and Emily Bush (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) placed 65th (20:29.3) and 91st (20:44.0), respectively. Graduate student Megan Harris (Essex, England) crossed the line in 101st with a time of 20:53.4. Sophomore Kate Currie (Christchurch, New Zealand) rounded out the top five for the Friars, finishing in 21:13.5. A total of 226 runners ran the race. 

For the men, the Friars were led by junior Cormac Dixon (Dublin, Ireland) who finished 58th in 23:34.8. Junior Daniel Prescott (Christchurch, New Zealand) and graduate student Jack Small (Kent, England) finished 121st (24:01.3) and 146th (24:11.6), respectively. Junior Elliott Pugh (Tauranga, New Zealand) placed 162nd (24:18.3) for Providence. Rounding out the Friars' top five was junior Ryan LoCicero (Bloomfield, N.J.), who finished in 24:26.9. There was a total of 239 runners in the race.
 
The Friars will return to action on Friday, Oct. 23 at the Brown Rothenberg Run in Attleboro, Mass. at the Mark Coogan Cross Country Course at Highland Park.
