PROVIDENCE, R.I. (October 22,2004)- The Providence College women's soccer team shutout the Orange of Syracuse, 1-0 at Glay Field on Friday, October 22, in Providence, R.I. The Friars improve their overall record to 5-11 and 2-7 in the BIG EAST, while Syracuse falls to 8-7-2 overall and 2-6-1 in the conference.
After a scoreless first half, the Friars intensified their offensive as they fired off six shots and allowed only four shots by Syracuse. The momentum went back and forth throughout the second half, but stayed with Providence as senior Shannon McMorrow (Boca Raton, Fla.) scored the game-winning goal at the 85:53 mark. Senior Maura Robertson (Wellesley, Mass.) led the team with four shots, including two on goal, while seniors Shana Thomas and Stephanie Sybert registered two goals apiece for the Orange.
The Friars held the shot advantage, 10-6.
