DURHAM, N.H. - The Providence College women's basketball team was defeated by New Hampshire, 62-52, on Tuesday, December 28 at Lundholm Gymnasium in Durham, N.H. Three Wildcats reached double figures led by Ray Williams' career-high 17 points. PC's Jill Furstenburg (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) netted a career-high 18 points in the loss. UNH improves to 4-4 with the win, while Providence drops to 0-10.

New Hampshire held a 26-21 lead at halftime. Furstenburg led all scorers in the opening 20 minutes with eight points. The Wildcats got a team high six points from Williams. New Hampshire led by as many as nine points (26-17) with 3:33 remaining on the clock. Providence held UNH scoreless the remainder of the half and scored four points of its own to get within five at the break (26-21).

In the second half, PC exploded on offense with a 9-2 scoring run that gave them a 30-28 lead with 15:55 left on the clock. The two teams traded baskets over the next few minutes and PC held a 37-36 lead with 10:54 on the clock. At the 8:24 mark, the UNH and PC were knotted at 38-38, before the Wildcats went on an 11-2 scoring run that gave them a nine-point lead (49-40) with 4:48 remaining in the game. Lindsay Adams fueled the run with nine of her teams 11 points during the span. The Friars chipped away at the Wildcats lead and trailed by just five points (55-50) with 1:29 left on the clock, but UNH closed out the game on a 7-2 run to make the final score, 62-52. Adams finished the game with 16 points, while Whitney Edwards contributed 11 points and a game-high five assists.

Furstenburg played just her second game of the season for the Friars and scored a game and career-high 18 points in the effort. She missed the first eight games of the 2004-05 season with an injury and has played all 40 minutes in each of the Friars' last two games. Furstenburg also has been the leading scorer for PC in each of those games. Joining Furstenburg in double figures was sophomore Kristina Baugh (Boston, Mass.), who tallied 11 points.

Providence (0-10) returns to action on Thursday, December 30 against Troy. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 7:35 p.m. at PC's Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. The contest will be televised locally on COX Sports Television (COX3).
