A depleted Providence College women's ice hockey team shutout Northeastern University, 2-0, on Sunday, March 7 at Matthews Arena in Boston, Mass.
The Friars were able to get on the board in the first period as sophomore Katelynn Laffin (Norwell, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal, her fifth of the year, on the power play at the 13:51 mark. Fellow sophomore Karen Thatcher (Douglas, Mass.) closed out the scoring on the day as she deposited the puck into an empty net at 19:59 of the third for her seventh tally of the season.
Providence outshot Northeastern, 18-14. Sophomore goaltender Jana Bugden (Corner Brook, Newfoundland) made 14 saves to post her second shutout in as many games. The Friars improved to 17-13-2 overall on the season and 12-5-1 in HOCKEY EAST, while Gunn made 16 saves for the Huskies as they fell to 13-11-8 overall and 7-8-4 in HOCKEY EAST.
Providence College returns to action on Wednesday, March 10 as they travel to Chestnut Hill, Mass. to take on the Eagles of Boston College at Kelley Rink at 7:00 p.m.
