BOSTON, Mass. -- The Providence College men's hockey team was defeated, 6-0, at Northeastern on Saturday, January 15 at Matthews Arena in Boston, Mass. Northeastern's Keni Gibson stopped all 21 Friar shots to earn the shutout.
Northeastern opened the scoring at 10:16 of the first period when Chuck Tomes fired a wrist shot from the blue line that beat Providence goalie David Cacciola (Burlington, Mass.) who was screened in front. The Friars, who held a 10-9 first period shot advantage, nearly tied the game with four minutes remaining in the first period, but freshman Jon Rheault's (Deering, N.H.) wrist shot from the slot glanced off the left post.
