Friar Volleyball Wins Both Matches On Saturday, September 29

Durham, N.C. - The Providence College volleyball team won both matches on the second day of the North Carolina Central Invitational. The Friars defeated North Carolina A&T, 3-1 by the scores of 30-26, 22-30, 30-26, and 30-23. Providence then swept Savannah State, 3-0 in its final match of the tourney by the scores of 30-7, 30-18, and 30-28. With the two wins, Providence improves to 12-7 on the season.

In the first match, senior Sarah Fleming (Saint Paul, Minn.) led all players with a match-high 17 kills. She also contributed 10 digs and three service aces. Three other Friars registered double-figure kills including, junior Elizabeth Flynn (Bellerose, N.Y.) with 16, junior Jeanette Toney (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 11 and sophomore Abby Majewski (Sunderland, Mass.) with a career-high 11 kills. Flynn was named to the North Carolina Central all-tournament team.

Junior setter Sara Sheehan (West Chester, Pa.) had a great performance igniting the Friar offense to a .336 hitting percentage and a season-high 54 assists.

In the 3-0 sweep of Savannah State, the Friars were led by Fleming who tallied a match-high 12 kills. Freshman Sondra Snyder (Norwood, N.J.) registered a career-high 12 assists in the win. Sheehan also added 26 assists, aiding another .336 hitting percentage for the Friars.

Senior Kasey Adinolfi (Branford, Conn.) had a match-high 15 digs along with five services aces. Freshman Meredith Gent (Reading, Mass.) had a solid performance from the outside position with seven kills.

The Friars return home to host the Bobcats of Quinnipiac University on Wednesday, October 3 in Alumni Hall at 7:00 p.m.
