The Providence College volleyball team was defeated by Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, 3-0, on Friday, October 3, at the Cougar Invitational. The Cougars won the match with game scores of 25-11, 25-18 and 25-22. With the defeat, Providence falls to 8-10, while SIU-Edwardsville improves to 3-7.
Senior Kelly Krahenbuhl (Larkspur, Colo.) continues to pace the Friar defense, recording 13 digs against the Cougars. Krahenbuhl has now posted double-digit dig totals in each of her last six matches. Senior Jeanette Toney (Brooklyn, N.Y.) played a solid all-around match for Providence, posting nine kills, seven digs and a service ace. The 5-10 middle blocker ranks second on the Friars in kills with 168 on the year. Setting up the Friar attack was senior co-captain Sara Sheehan (West Chester, Pa.) with 26 assists.
PC plays another two matches in the Chicago Invitational on Saturday, October 4. The Friars will face Quinnipiac at 12:00 p.m. and square off against Chicago State at 3:00 p.m.
