Women's Basketball Falls To USF, 86-62

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to USF, 86-62, in BIG EAST Conference action at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. on Tuesday, January 20. Despite a season-high 18 points from Chelsea Marandola (Johnston, R.I.) and a game-high 15 rebounds from Shantee Darrian (Trenton, N.J.), the Bulls' free-flowing offense was too much to contain.
USF took 83 shots in the game and connected on 34 (.410), including 12-of-27 (.444) attempts from three-point territory. Providence netted 25-of-62 (.403) field goal attempts on the night, including 6-of-13 (.462) attempts from beyond the arc.
USF took a slim 37-33 advantage into the locker room at halftime, but outscored the Friars by 20 (49-29) in the second half to take the 24-point win.
Five USF players reached double figures on the night, led by Jazmine Sepulveda, who tallied a game-high 25 points on 9-of-19 shooting from the field (6-12 from three). Shantia Grace added 18 points, followed by 12 points each from Janae Stokes and Jessica Lawson. Brittany Denson rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points. Lawson and Denson also recorded double-doubles by bringing down 12 and 11 rebounds, respectively. Porche Grant played 21 minutes off the bench and hauled in a team-high 13 rebounds.
Junior Emily Cournoyer (North Attleboro, Mass.) joined Marandola in double figures with 11 points. Lola Wells (Fontana, Calif.) came off the bench to dish a team-high four assists.
USF owned the glass with a 56-37 rebounding advantage. Providence College finished the night with 10 blocked shots, while USF rejected eight shots.
The Friars return to action on Saturday, January 24 against Seton Hall in South Orange, N.J. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
