PROVIDENCE, R.I. -

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released this week's national rankings today with both Friar cross country teams represented. The Providence women currently rank 17th in the country with 175 points. The men are 20th with 131 points.

The Friar women are coming off a strong, fifth-place showing (out of 29 teams) at the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis. The team, running on a rain-soaked golf course, scored 139 points. Sophomore Shelby Greany (Suffern, N.Y.) led the way in her first action of the season, placing fifth individually in a time of 21:09.2. She was followed by freshman Laura Nagel (Napier, New Zealand) in a tenth-place time of 21:23.0. Nagel was the second freshman to cross overall.

The Friars also received strong showings from junior Mary Kate Champagne (Plattsburg, N.Y.; 30th 21:49.9), junior Hannah Davidson (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; 35th, 21:54.7), and sophomore Sam Roecker (Charlton, N.Y.; 59th, 22:16.1) to round out their scoring.

The Friar women are idle this coming weekend. They will head to Boston on Saturday, October 9th for the New England Championships.

The Friar men, meanwhile, were off this past weekend. The team will race this Saturday, October 2, in the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational, held in Madison, Wisconsin. The gun goes off at 12:45 ET.
