BALTIMORE, Md. - The Providence College women's volleyball team fell to UMBC in America East action on Friday, October 14 in Baltimore, Md. The Retrievers took the victory in straight sets (25-15, 25-15, 25-20).

As a team, the Friars struggled on the attack, with just 29 kills and a hitting percentage of 0.109. Conversely, UMBC recorded 40 kills in the match and hit at a 0.350 clip.

Shelagh Dolan (Westford, Mass.) recorded a team-best 10 kills for Providence on 19 total attacks for an impressive hitting percentage of 0.526. Lauren Fletcher (Syracuse, N.Y.) recorded eight kills. Anne Powers (La Selva Beach, Calif.) and Cassie Muzzonigro (Gibsonia, Pa.) combined for 22 digs, with 10 and 12, respectively.

For UMBC, Dalton Tolliver recorded 12 kills and Iman Kennedy added 11. The Retrievers posted a well-balanced defensive effort with five players totaling five or more digs, led by Hallie Carter (10).

The Friars fall to 6-16 overall (1-4 America East), while UMBC improves to 12-9 overall (2-3 America East). Providence returns to action on October 16 against Stony Brook. The game is slated to be played in Stony Brook, N.Y. at 1:00 p.m.
