SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The Providence College volleyball team wrapped-up its season-opening, eight-match road trip with a pair of straight-set losses to San Francisco (25-13, 25-18, 25-19) and Columbia (25-7, 25-20, 25-19). The Friars drop to 2-5 on the season.
As has been the case in every match this season, senior Lauren Fletcher (Syracuse, N.Y.) led the Friars with six kills against the Dons and seven against the Lions. Freshman Colleen McCollom (Indian Head Park, Ill.) added five kills and 11 digs against the Dons, before adding five kills and three digs against Columbia. Carly Morrison recorded 13 and 19 assists, respectively.
Junior libero Cassie Muzzonigro (Gibsonia, Pa.) made the USF asics/Powerade Challenge All-Tournament Team, picking up 11 digs against USF and 13 against the Lions. Jocelyn Levig led the way for the Dons in their sweep of PC. She picked up 11 kills, while Vendula Strakova added nine. Setter Joan Caloiaro recorded 28 assists, while Leanna Ludes added 11 helpers.
Columbia got outstanding play from Monique Roberts, who picked up 12 kills. Cindy Chen added nine kills and Megan Gaughn contributed seven. The Lions setters had a solid day, with Kelsey Musselman recorded 20 assists and Colleen Brennan contributing 19.
Next up for the Friars is their home-opener, as they host cross-town rival Brown at Alumni Hall on Wednesday, September 7. First serve against the Bears is set for 7:00 p.m.
