HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. --The Providence College volleyball team was defeated by Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday, August 25 in five sets (25-19, 25-18, 22-25, 19-25, 10-15) in Hempstead, N.Y.
The Friars (0-3) turned out a number of outstanding performances from their players despite the loss. Sophomore Mackenzie Ziegler (Portage, Wis.) recorded her first career double-double, setting new career-highs in both kills with 15 and digs with 14. Sophomore Anna Russian (Round Rock, Texas) also set a new career-high with 17 kills while classmate Colleen McCollom (Indian Head Park, Ill.) collected 13 kills. Freshman Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) led all players with a career-high 49 assists while senior Cassie Muzzonigro (Gibsonia, Pa.) led all players with 30 digs during the match.
The Friars will play their final match of the Hofstra Tournament at 3:00 p.m. against the UC Riverside Highlanders on Saturday, August 25.
Providence will play its first match at home this season on Sunday, October 7 versus America East foe Stony Brook. This match will mark the first athletic event played in the renovated Mullaney Gymnasium in Alumni Hall.
