PITTSBURGH, Pa. --The Providence College volleyball team (1-7) was defeated in four sets (15-25, 25-18, 15-25, 23-25) by Norfolk State in the Duquesne/Robert Morris Invitational on Saturday, September 1. The Friars will play their final match of the tournament at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, September 1 versus co-host Robert Morris.
Sophomore Colleen McCollom (Indian Head Park, Ill.) picked up a double-double after recording 12 kills and a team-high 16 digs. Sophomore Mackenzie Ziegler (Portage, Wis.) led the Friars with 13 kills and notched nine digs, while classmate Anna Russian (Round Rock, Texas) had 11 kills and a team-high .421 hitting percentage. Freshman Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) led the team with 37 assists.
Providence will play its first match at home this season on Sunday, October 7 versus America East foe Stony Brook. This match will mark the first athletic event played in the renovated Mullaney Gymnasium in Alumni Hall.
