Baltimore, Md. --The Providence College volleyball team (1-19, 0-3) was defeated by UMBC (8-12, 1-2) in four sets (24-26, 25-23, 25-13, 25-10) on Sunday, September 30 in Baltimore, Md.

Senior Cassie Muzzonigro (Gibsonia, Pa.) collected 11 digs for the Friars to bring her career total to 1,600 digs, breaking the Providence College career digs record set in 2002 by Sarah Katinger. Freshman Lindsay Witt (Basking Ridge, N.J.) tied a season-high with seven kills and added one dig. Freshman Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) picked up her fourth double-double of the season, notching 11 digs and leading the team with 28 assists. Wiesler also tied a season-high with five kills.

The Friars will make the short trip to Smithfield, R.I. on Tuesday, October 2, to in-state and non-conference opponent Bryant University.

Providence will play its first match at home this season on Sunday, October 7 versus America East foe Stony Brook. This match will mark the first athletic event played in the renovated Mullaney Gymnasium in Alumni Hall.
