PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College woman's soccer team played to a tie with Fordham on Friday, Sept. 20 in Providence, R.I. The Friars move to 3-2-3 while Fordham moves to 2-4-2.
Fordham jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute when Nicol Natale found the back of the net. The remainder of the half was scoreless and the Rams carried a 1-0 lead into the half.
The Friars opened the second half with a goal in the 48th minute. Junior Allison Walton (Brunswick, Maine) received a feed from junior Alexia Shea (Brewster, N.Y.) and Walton's strike beat Fordham's keeper to even the game at 1-1.
Providence took a 2-1 lead in the 65th minute when junior Shea's (Brewster, N.Y.) header reached the back of the net. Senior Amanda Webster (Saugus, Mass.) serviced a corner kick that Hiller flicked on to Shea. Hiller leads the team in scoring with 12 points on five goals and two assists.
Fordham evened the game at 2-2 in the 69th minute when Kaitlyn Carballeira finished a header from a corner kick taken by Victoria Camaj. Carballeira's goal sent the match into overtime.
Neither Providence nor Fordham were able to notch a decision maker in overtime and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
Providence outshot the Rams 10-6 and held the advantage in corners, 8-2.
Freshman keeper Kristyn Shea (Piscataway, N.J.) played all 110 minutes in goal and recorded three saves.
Providence returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 22 when the Friars host Cincinnati. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. and will be played on Glay Field.'
