The Hoyas captured the first set 25-17. Fitzgerald posted four kills and junior Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) added eight assists in the set.
Providence was down by one point, 13-12, in the second set, but Georgetown come back and win the set, 25-21. Sophomore Kayla Johnson (Silver Spring, Md.) contributed three kills. Sophomore Michelle Cruz (Midland Park, N.J.) tallied eight digs.
The Friars jumped out to a quick 8-3 lead in the third set, but the Hoyas went on an 8-2 run to overtake the lead (11-10). Providence came back to take a 19-17 advantage. The score was tied at 21 when Georgetown went on to win the set, 25-22, and the match, 3-0. Fitzgerald again posted four kills.
For the match, Wiesler finished with 18 assists while freshman Chicyia Clark (Huntington Beach, Calif.) added 12 assists. Cruz finished with a match-high 17 digs.
Georgetown was led by Alex Johnson and Terese Cannon who had 21 and 15 kills, respectively. Casey Spper registered 41 assists while Mackenzie Simpson had a team-best 15 digs.
The Friars play again on Sunday, Oct. 19 at Creighton. The match is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
