Sept. 14, 2016 PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men’s and women’s cross country programs were both ranked in the latest USTFCCCA poll. The women’s team remained at the third overall spot, behind the University of New Mexico, last year’s NCAA Champions, and the University of Colorado. The men’s team moved from the 21st spot to 20th spot in the national poll.
The women picked up another first place vote, improving upon the two first place votes from the preseason poll, to close the gap on the number one ranking. The women now have 338 points. The Friars sit seven points behind the University of Colorado (two first place votes and 345 points) and ten points behind number one, University of New Mexico (seven first place votes and 348 points).
These are the first rankings to include regular season results. Both the men and women won the UNH Tri-Meet with a perfect score of 15 on Sept. 3. The Friars were inactive this past weekend, but return to action on Sept. 16 with the Beantown Invitational at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. The women’s race will start at 3:00 p.m. while the men’s race will start at 3:30 p.m.
