Final Stats

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's soccer team was defeated by the University of Connecticut Huskies on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 1-0, at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. The Huskies scored the lone goal of the contest in the 76th minute. The Friars move to 4-5 while the Huskies improve to 7-3.

The Friars and Huskies finished the first half scoreless, each with five shots in the first half. Ben Seguljic (Rye Brook, N.Y.) made three saves in the first half.

Late in the second half, UConn's Abdou Thiam ran the ball down the left flank beating the Friar defense to the 18-yard box. Seguljic came out to challenge Thiam one-on-one but Thiam stepped past him for an open net goal.

The Friars pressured offensively, but were unable to even the score. Their best chance of the game came when Alex DaCosta (Bristol, R.I.) stopped the ball just outside the six-yard box but UConn's Scott Levene made the save.

Providence and UConn were even in corner kicks (4) and shots (5) in the second half. Segulijic finished the game with four saves and UConn's Levene had one save.

The Friars are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 4:00 p.m. against BIG EAST opponent Xavier at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium.
