PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team took down the DePaul Blue Demons in three sets on Friday, Nov. 3. With the win, the Friars improve to 16-12 (5-8) on the season.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS:
-Providence took the first set, 25-20.
-The Friars held the Blue Demons to a -.023 hitting percentage.
-Sophomore Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.) recorded five kills.
-Freshman MacKenzie Lydon (Stuart, Fla.) tallied an impressive 13 digs in the first set.
-Freshman Allison Barber recorded 10 assists for Providence.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS:
-The Friars claim set two, 25-22.
-Sophomore Cayla Veverka (Collegeville, Pa.) and Root each recorded three kills in set two.
-Barber added nine assists and six digs in the second set.
-As a team, Providence recorded four blocks in the set.
THIRD SET HIGHTLIGHTS:
-Providence would claim the fourth and final set with a 26-24 score.
-Sophomore Lindsey Schaible (Tampa, Fla.) powered to five kills and a .833 hitting percentage in set three.
-Barber continued her strong setting for Providence, adding 13 in set three.
-Both Barber and junior Megan Onyundo (Woodbridge, Va.) added four digs in set three.
-The team had a match high .308 hitting percentage in the final set.
MATCH HIGHS:
-Root led the Friars with 11 total kills. Veverka was not far behind with nine of her own.
-Barber recorded another double-double with 32 assists and 12 digs.
-Lydon exploded for 18 digs to lead Providence on the night.
-The team held DePaul to a .090 hitting percentage for the whole match.
NEXT UP:
Providence finishes its home schedule with a match against the Marquette Golden Eagles on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 4:00 p.m. The match will be the Friars' Senior Day.
