PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's soccer team blanked Saint Joseph's University, 3-0, on Thursday, Sept. 14th, at Anderson Stadium. With the win, the Friars improve to .500 on the year for the first time this season. Goaltender
Shelby Hogan (Franklin, Mass.) collected her second shutout of the season while
Theresa Durkee (Sale, Conn.) netted her first goal of the year.
GAME FLOW & NOTES
1st Half
- Providence grabbed the early advantage as
Amber Birchwell delivered a perfect cross to red shirt freshman
Theresa Durkee. Durkee played the cross beautifully and finished from six yards out to give the Friars a 1-0 lead.
- The Friars held St. Joseph's to just three shots in the first half.
- Friars goalkeeper
Shelby Hogan (Franklin, Mass.) made a pair of saves to keep the Hawks off the board.
- With time winding down in the first half, Providence increased their lead to 2-0.
Camille Murphy put one on net off a crosser. St Joseph's goalkeeper Grace Bendon deflected Murphy's try, but senior Kristan Hayman (Redmond, Wash.) cleaned up the scramble on the goal line to double the Friars' lead.
2nd Half
- After Providence put on a stalwart defensive effort to begin the half, they pushed their advantage to 3-0 as freshman
Christina Rodgers (Scotch Plains, N.J.) knocked in a deflection off the Hawks' goalkeeper.
- Saint Joseph's had six corners for the half but was limited to two shots on goal.
