Burton’s Second Period Goal Seals 1-0 Shutout At Holy Cross

Burton notches her second game-winning goal of the season and third goal of her career.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman Bailey Burton (Bloomington, Minn.) scored the eventual game-winning goal with 2:47 remaining in the second period to propel the Providence College women's hockey team over the Holy Cross Crusaders, 1-0, on Friday, Nov. 1. Burton's goal was her second game-winning goal of the season and third of her career.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
-Providence and Holy Cross skated to a scoreless first period despite two power play opportunities for the Crusaders and one for the Friars. Holy Cross recorded three shots with the extra skater, while Providence Did not record a shot with the advantage.
- Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) started in net for the first time this season and third time of her career. She picked up 11 saves in the opening period to keep the game scoreless.
- The Friars found themselves in the offensive zone almost all of the second period before converting with 2:47 remaining in the middle frame. Freshman Bailey Burton (Bloomington, Minn.) scored her third goal of the season to put the Friars in front 1-0. Maureen Murphy (Buffalo, N.Y.) won the faceoff in the offensive zone before dumping the puck back to Chloe Gonsalves (Toronto, Ontario) on the left point. Gonsalves put a wrist shot in front of the net that Burton re-directed in to the bottom right corner of the net.  
- Holy Cross failed to convert on its two power play chances in the second period despite picking up five shots on net throughout the four minutes with an extra skater.
- Providence killed two penalties in the third period to seal the 1-0 shutout victory. The Friars finished the game a perfect 6-6 on the penalty kill.
- Abstreiter earned the first shutout of her career in her 2019 debut. She recorded 26 saves.
- Providence improves to 4-3-2 overall all the season with a 2-1-0 conference mark.
