Last Time Out
- After being shutout in the season's first two contests, the Friars responded with a much-needed 4-2 win on the road at No. 8 UMass Lowell last Sunday.
- Trailing 1-0 late in the second period, freshman Nick Poisson broke the ice for the Friars to even the score at 1-1.
- The River Hawks re-claimed the lead just 14 seconds into period three, but Providence erupted for the game's final three goals.
- Tyce Thompson and Mike Callahan each scored on the power play, while Greg Printz added an empty-net goal with just 1.5 seconds to play.
- Parker Ford assisted on all three third period goals.
- Sophomore transfer Jaxson Stauber made 12-of-14 stops in his Friar debut for the win, his second career NCAA win after transferring from Minnesota State last season.
 
Friars Represented On 2021 U.S. National Junior Team
Nate Leaman was been named head coach of the 2021 U.S. National Junior Team, while Friar Director of Hockey Operations, Theresa Feaster, was named to the staff as a video coach. Three Friars were named to Team USA's preliminary roster earlier this week: Brett Berard, Cam McDonald and Patrick Moynihan. The U.S. National Junior Team will take part in the 2021 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship Dec. 26, 2020 – Jan. 5, 2021, in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta. Team USA is seeking its fifth medal in six years at the event.
 
Three Current and Future Friars Drafted
Forwards Brett Berard and Chase Yoder were both selected on day two of the 2020 NHL Draft in October. Berard was selected by the New York Rangers in the fifth round (134th overall), while Yoder was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the sixth round (170th overall). Future Friar Riley Duran was taken by the Boston Bruins in the sixth round (182nd overall).
 
Meet the New Guys
Providence welcomed in a seven-member incoming class for this season - four freshmen and three transfer student-athletes. The freshmen are: Brett Berard, Nick Poisson, Uula Ruikka and Chase Yoder. Sophomore Jaxson Stauber is a transfer from Minnesota State, while Matt Tugnutt and Anton Martinsson are graduate transfers from Sacred Heart and Alaska Fairbanks, respectively.
 
A Shorthanded Weapon
Graduate transfer Matt Tugnutt is the nation's active career leader in shorthanded goals with five.
 
Spreading Out the Points
Twenty-one different Friars had at least one point last season. Seven of those players had 15+ points and four of them had 25+.
 
Striking First
Providence scored the game's first goal in 25 out of 34 games last season.
 
Strong on the Power Play
The Friars were 34-for-133 on the power play in 2019-20 and were ranked eighth nationally with a 25.6% conversion rate. Providence has scored at least one power-play goal in 24 out of the season's 34 games. In nine of those games, the Friars have netted multiple goals on advantages. - Eight different players have scored on power-play chances, including nine goals from Patrick Moynihan and eight from Tyce Thompson.
 
Returning Production
Providence ranks sixth in the nation with 84 goals returning this season. The 82% of returning goals ranks fourth nationally. The Friars also return 76% of their points from last season, which also ranks sixth.
 
Youth Movement
The Friars have the 10th youngest roster in the NCAA this season (average age of 21 years, 181 days). Freshman Brett Berard is the fifth youngest player on an NCAA roster this year.
 
Seeking Seven
Providence holds the nation's second longest-active NCAA appearance streak, having made a sixth- straight tournament appearance in 2018-19. Denver leads the pack with 12-straight appearances.
 
Three is the Magic Number
The Friars are 165-17-18 all-time under Nate Leaman when scoring three or more goals in a game.
 
After 40
The Friars are 151-6-17 all-time under Nate Leaman when holding a lead after two periods.

Scouting the Huskies
Northeastern enters the weekend unbeaten at 2-0-0 after a weekend sweep over Merrimack last week. The Huskies outscored the Warriors by a 14-5 margin over the two games and were 6-of-14 on the power play. Junior defenseman Jordan Harris and freshman forward Steven Agriogianis led the way with five points each on two goals and three assists. In total, 10 players registered at least two points over the weekend. Sophomore Connor Murphy got the nod in net for both games, turning away 47-of-52 shots for a 2.51 GAA and .904 save percentage.
 
Series History vs. Northeastern (PC leads 88-56-18, .599)
Home teams held serve in last season's series between the two schools as Northeastern claimed both games at Matthews Arena while the Friars won the lone game at Schneider Arena in 2019-20. After a 6-0-1 stretch against the Huskies, the Friars have dropped the last two meetings.
