LAST TIME OUT
- Parker Ford and Brett Berard scored late on the power play as the No. 16 Providence College men's hockey team rallied from a 2-0 third period deficit to down Princeton, 3-2, on Saturday night (Dec. 11) at Schneider Arena.
-Princeton struck first, 1-0, with a goal just 28 seconds into play by Spencer Kersten.
-The Tigers capitalized on the power-play opportunity, 2-0, with a goal by Corey Andonovski at 9:37. The goal broke Providence's success streak on the penalty kill, which saw 24-consecutive opponent power play opportunities killed. 
-Riley Duran got the Friars on the board, 2-1, 2:34 into the final period as he blasted a long-distance shot off a feed from Michael Citara. Duran notched his second goal of the weekend and fifth of the season on the play.
-Jaxson Stauber was pulled from net at 17:26 to give the Friars the extra man in the final minutes of play.
-After a Providence coaches challenge, Princeton's Ian Murphy was assessed a five-minute major and game misconduct 10-minute game misconduct for grasping the facemask at 17:42 of the third period, leaving the Friars with a five-minute power play for the remainder of regulation. 
-Parker Ford found the equalizer on the power play, 2-2, just 33 seconds later with help from Patrick Moynihan and Max Crozier.
-Brett Berard netted the game-winner for the Friars, 3-2, with just 39.1 seconds remaining off a tip from Moynihan's one-timer. Nick Poisson earned the secondary assist on the play. The goal served as Berard's 12th tally of the season. 
-Despite being shorthanded, Princeton managed a few looks in the final seconds trying to equalize but Stauber shut the door as the Friars concluded the first half at 14-7 and 9-2 on home ice.
- Saturday marked the fourth time that the Friars rallied from a multi-goal deficit to win in regulation this season.
- Providence out-attempted the Tigers, 95-43.
 
A Look at Bowling Green...
The Falcons enter the tournament suffering a two-game, home-and-home sweep at the hands of Ohio State on Dec. 16-17. Bowling Green currently sits fifth in the CCHA standings with a 6-5-1 league record. The Falcons are led by Austen Swankler (7-12-19), Alex Barber (7-10-17) and Taylor Schneider (5-12-17). Christian Stoever and Zack Rose have split the duties between the pipes this season. Stoever has a 2.55 GAA and .916 save percentage, while Rose has a 3.47 GAA and .880 save percentage.
 
Friars Represented On 2022 U.S. National Junior Team
Brett Berard was recently named to the 2022 U.S. National Junior Team Preliminary Roster. Nate Leaman returns as head coach of the 2022 U.S. National Junior Team, while Friar Director of Hockey Operations, Theresa Feaster also returns to the staff as a video coach. The U.S. National Junior Team will take part in the 2022 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship Dec. 26, 2021 – Jan. 5, 2022, in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta. Team USA is seeking its sixth medal in seven years at the event.
 
Balanced Scoring
Seven players recorded at least two points in Providence's season-opener against Army on Oct. 2 - Brett Berard (2-0-2), Nick Poisson (0-2-2), Patrick Moynihan (1-1-2), Michael Callahan (1-1-2), Craig Needham (1-1-2) and Parker Ford (1-1-2) all recorded two points while Guillaume Richard led the team with three points (1-2-3). Through 21 games, 21 players have already found the scoresheet, while freshmen have accounted for 31 points on 12 goals and 19 assists.
 
Special Teams Success
The Friars now ranks second in the NCAA on the power play with a .301 success rate. The penalty kill ranks fifth nationally, checking in at 89.9%. Providence had killed off 24-consecutive shorthanded situations before allowing a power-play goal to Princeton on Dec. 11.
 
Returning Production
Providence ranked sixth in the nation with 84 goals that returned this season. The 82% of returning goals ranked fourth nationally. The Friars also returned 76% of their points from last season, which also ranked sixth.
 
Youth Movement
The Friars have the 16th youngest roster in the NCAA this season (average age of 21 years, 11 months). Freshman Guilluame Richard is one of the younger players on an NCAA roster this year at 18 years and 8 months.
 
Fourteen Former Friars Participate in NHL Training Camps, Seven Earn Roster Spots
Providence boasts 14 former players that have participated in NHL training camps thus far in September. Noel Acciari (FLA), Kasper Bjorkqvist (PIT), Jacob Bryson (BUF), Vincent Desharnais (EDM), Jack Dugan (VGK), Brandon Duhaime (MIN), Jon Gillies (NYI), Mark Jankowski (NJ), Brian Pinho (WSH), Greg Printz (ANA), Kevin Rooney (NYR), Brandon Tanev (SEA), Tyce Thompson (NJ) and Jake Walman (STL). Acciari, Bryson, Duhaime, Rooney, Tanev, Thompson and Walman all made opening night rosters, while Duhaime made his NHL debut on Oct. 15 in Anaheim.
 
Three is the Magic Number
The Friars are 186-19-20 all-time under Nate Leaman when scoring three or more goals in a game.

The Friars are 168-7-17 all-time under Nate Leaman when holding a lead after two periods.
 
Duran Named Hockey East Co-Rookie of the Week
Freshman Riley Duran was named Hockey East Co-Rookie of the Week after posting two goals and two assists against Princeton from Dec. 10-11. It was the sixth time a Friar has earned weekly Hockey East recognition this season.
 
Richard Continues Strong Rookie season
Rookie defensemen Guillaume Richard leads all freshmen with a +15 rating this season and ranks eighth overall in that category.
 
Series History vs. Bowling Green (PC leads 6-5-0, .545)
The Friars and Falcons meet for the 12th time on Tuesday in Milwaukee, marking the first meeting between the schools since 2009. Providence is 6-5-0 all-time against Bowling Green and have won the previous three matchups in the series.
 
Series History vs. Wisconsin (PC trails 3-10-0, .231)
Should the Friars and Badgers meet on Wednesday at the Kwik Trip Holiday Faceoff, it would mark the first meeting since the Badger Showdown in 2006. Providence's last win over Wisconsin came in a 9-4 win at Schneider Arena in 1989. The teams also met twice in the NCAA Tournament over the years (1983 and 2001), with the Badgers winning both contests.
 
Series History vs. Yale (PC leads 18-12-0, .600)
Providence and Yale could meet up for the first time since 2017. The teams have meet twice in recent years, with the Friars claiming a 4-3 win over then No. 9 Yale in 2015 and a 3-1 on the road at Ingalls Rink in 2017. Overall, Providence has won nine-consecutive games against the Bulldogs dating back to 1982.
