Last Time Out
-UMass grabbed an early lead in the opening period, netting two goals. Carson Gicewicz put the Minutemen on the board on the power play at 3:33 as John McDermott was whistled for high-sticking. Ty Farmer followed up with another goal less than minute later. 
-The Minutemen returned in the middle period with a goal from Josh Lopina, improving their lead to 3-0.
-Parker Ford netted the first and only goal for the Friars at 2:46 into the second. Ford was assisted by Patrick Moynihan on his fourth goal of the season.
-UMass added three more goals in the second by Garrett Wait, George Mika and Oliver Chau, respectively, and entered the intermission with a 6-1 lead.
-The Minutemen extended their lead in the final period with two more goals from Wait and Zac Jones. Jones' goal was scored on the power play.
-The Friars played man-down for five minutes at 9:05 after Jamie Engelbert was given a five-minute major and game misconduct for contact to the head. UMass was unable to capitalize on the power play.
-Jaxson Stauber stopped 32 of 40 shots he faced.
-Cam McDonald had a team-high of five shots on goal.
 
Stauber Named 2021 Mike Richter Award Finalist
- The Hockey Commissioners Association (HCA) has announced the finalists for this year's Mike Richter Award, given annually to the top goalie in men's NCAA Division I hockey since 2014. Providence College sophomore goaltender Jaxson Stauber (Plymouth, Minn.) was named a finalist for the award.
- In 18 games with the Friars in 2020-21, Stauber has posted a 9-5-4 record, a 2.03 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage with four shutouts. The four shutouts lead all Hockey East goaltenders and are tied for third nationally.
 
Three Current and Future Friars Drafted
Forwards Brett Berard and Chase Yoder were both selected on day two of the 2020 NHL Draft in October. Berard was selected by the New York Rangers in the fifth round (134th overall), while Yoder was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the sixth round (170th overall). Future Friar Riley Duran was taken by the Boston Bruins in the sixth round (182nd overall).
 
Meet the New Guys
Providence welcomed in a seven-member incoming class for this season - four freshmen and three transfer student-athletes. The freshmen are: Brett Berard, Nick Poisson, Uula Ruikka and Chase Yoder. Sophomore Jaxson Stauber is a transfer from Minnesota State, while Matt Tugnutt and Anton Martinsson are graduate transfers from Sacred Heart and Alaska Fairbanks, respectively.
 
Spreading Out the Points
Twenty-one different Friars had at least one point last season. Through 18 games in 2020-21, 20 players have recorded at least one point while 18 players have tallied at least one goal.
 
Stauber Backstops The Friars
Since becoming eligible on Dec. 13, Jaxson Stauber has posted a 2.03 GAA and a .922 save percentage in 18 games, stopping 435-of-472 shots.
 
Returning Production
Providence ranked sixth in the nation with 84 goals that returned this season. The 82% of returning goals ranked fourth nationally. The Friars also returned 76% of their points from last season, which also ranked sixth.
 
Youth Movement
The Friars have the 10th youngest roster in the NCAA this season (average age of 21 years, 181 days). Freshman Brett Berard is the fifth youngest player on an NCAA roster this year.
 
Seeking Seven
Providence holds the nation's second longest-active NCAA appearance streak, having made a sixth- straight tournament appearance in 2018-19. Denver leads the pack with 12-straight appearances.
 
Three is the Magic Number
The Friars are 172-19-19 all-time under Nate Leaman when scoring three or more goals in a game.
 
After 40
The Friars are 156-7-17 all-time under Nate Leaman when holding a lead after two periods, with one of those seven losses coming on Jan. 15 against Maine.
 
Third Period Momentum
The Friars have a 27-17 (+10) margin overall this season in the third period, which ranks sixth in the NCAA and first in Hockey East.
 
GWGs for Everyone
Nine different players have accounted for the Friars' nine game-winning goals this season.
 
Scouting the Huskies
The Huskies enter the weekend coming off a split of a weekend series against UMass Lowell. Senior Zach Solow leads Northeastern in scoring with 19 points on eight goals and 11 assists, followed by Jordan Harris (5-11-16) and Aidan McDonough (9-6-15).  Sophomore Connor Murphy has started all 17 games in posting a 2.55 GAA and .915 save percentage with two shutouts.
 
Series History vs. Northeastern (PC leads 89-56-19, .601)
This meeting will mark the third and fourth meetings of the season between the schools. The Friars hold a 1-0-1 advantage after skating to a 3-3 tie and a 5-0 win in December over the Huskies. Overall, Providence has won six-consecutive games between the schools on home ice dating back to 2015.
