Brett Berard capped a frantic comeback with an overtime goal as the No. 14 Providence College men's hockey team rallied from a two-goal deficit in the third period to score a 4-3 overtime victory over No. 5 UMass on Saturday night at the Mullins Center.
- Providence once again struck first as senior
Jamie Engelbert rushed through the neutral zone and wired a wrist shot past Pavicich for his second tally of the season to make it 1-0 Friars.
Liam Valente and
Max Crozier assisted on the play.
- Ryan Ufko knotted the game at 1-1 with a power-play goal at 15:03.
- UMass held a 13-5 advantage in shots through 20 minutes.
- The Minutemen took at 3-1 lead through two periods of play after second period goals from Michael Cameron and Mikey Adamson.
- Providence began to turn the momentum in the third and drew within one after
Patrick Moynihan tallied his fourth goal of the season on the power play cut the deficit to 3-2.
- The Friars continued to push and got the equalizer just two minutes later as
Brett Berard intercepted a pass behind the UMass net, attempted a wrap-around which bounced right to
Parker Ford who finished it off for his third of the season to tie the game at 3-3.
- In overtime,
Nick Poisson forced a turnover at the Providence blue line and sent
Brett Berard in all alone on a breakaway. Berard beat Pavicich to the five-hole for his third goal of the weekend to cap the comeback for Providence.

Senior
Patrick Moynihan is second among all active NCAA players with 22 career power-play goals, including a game-winning markers on the power play against Sacred Heart, Clarkson and Northeastern. Moynihan's three game-winning goals are second in the NCAA and match his previous total over a combined 89 career games entering the 2022-23 season.

Berard Breaks Out
After going goal-less for the first seven games of the season, junior
Brett Berard broke out against UMass last weekend, tallying two goals and an assist last Friday and recording two points including the game-winning goal on Saturday in overtime.

Crozier Earns Hockey East Accolades
Co-captain
Max Crozier was named Hockey East Defender of the Week on Nov. 7 after posting three assists, three blocked shots and a +2 rating over two wins against UMass.

Providence ices the sixth youngest roster in the NCAA with an average age of 21.1 years and has a combined 16 first and second year players out of a 29-player roster.

Series History vs. UConn (PC leads 14-5-3, .705)
The Friars and Huskies meet for a home-and-home series this weekend beginning Friday night at Schneider Arena. The matchup pits top squads ranked in the top-10 of both national polls with UConn entering 7th and Providence at 9th. Home teams scored both victories last season as Providence earned a 6-4 win on Nov. 13 followed by a UConn win at the XL Center on Feb. 4. Neither team has suffered a setback at home this season - Providence (4-0-0) and UConn (6-0-1). Last meeting marked the first time the Friars have lost at the XL Center after being unbeaten in the first six visits there (4-0-2).
Scouting the Huskies...
UConn enters the weekend at 9-1-1 overall and in first place in Hockey East with 16 points (6-1-0, 2 OTW). After suffering their only loss of the season against Boston University on Oct. 22, the Huskies have since three-straight including a pair of 3-2 victories at home over Maine last weekend. Junior Ryan Tverberg leads the team in scoring with 11 points on seven goals and four assists while rookie Matthew Wood has posted 10 points on four goals and six assists. Vermont transfer defenseman Andrew Lucas rounds out the top-three in scoring with nine points on one goal and eight assists. Goaltenders Logan Terness and Arsenii Sergeev has shared duties in between the pipes for UConn. Terness is 5-0-1 with a 1.31 GAA and .950 save percentage while Sergeev is 4-1-0 with a 2.19 GAA and .930 save percentage.
