Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) of the Providence College women's hockey team was named Hockey East Stop It Goaltender of the Week on Monday, Oct. 17 for the third time this season. In addition to Abstreiter,
Sara Hjalmarsson (Bankeryd, Sweden) was named Hockey East Co-Player of the Week.
Over the weekend, Abstreiter recorded her sixth shutout for the 2022-23 season and owns 15 shutouts in her career. She tallied 42 saves on Friday, Nov. 18 and 21 saves on Saturday, Nov. 19. Abstreiter ranks second all-time in career shutouts at Providence College. Genevieve Lacasse is the career leader (20). Abstreiter recently passed Jana Bugden '06 and Madison Myers, who are tied for third all-time in shutouts, with 13.
Hjalmarsson led the Friars this past weekend in points with five. On Friday, Nov. 18 Hjalmarsson scored the first goal of the day against University of Maine. On Saturday, Nov. 19 she had a four-goal game. It marked Hjalmarsson's third-career hat trick and became the first Friar to score four goals since Laurie Baker in 1996.
